Ostapenko, the 2017 Roland Garros champion, will face Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the quarterfinals.

Kalinskaya is currently ranked 24th in the world, making her the fifth-highest Russian player on the WTA list. She has yet to win a WTA title.

The Rome tournament, which offers a prize pool of €7.22 million, is set to conclude on May 16. It is classified as a WTA 1000 event, trailing only the Grand Slams and the WTA Finals in prestige.
