Hertha Berlin’s exceptional talent, Kennet Eichhorn, has etched his name in the record books as the youngest goalscorer in 2. Bundesliga history. The midfield jewel netted the opening goal in the 55th minute during a 2-1 victory over SpVgg Greuther Fürth, despite Hertha playing with a man down. At 16 years, 9 months, and 13 days old, Eichhorn surpassed the previous record held by Gunther Reeg in 1985 by 52 days.
The Berlin academy product had already made history in August by becoming the youngest player ever to feature in the 2. Bundesliga, at just 16 years and 14 days old. In December, he scored his first professional goal in the DFB-Pokal, making him the youngest post-World War II goalscorer in that competition.
As one of Germany’s brightest young prospects, Eichhorn has attracted interest from several top clubs. Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and RB Leipzig are reportedly leading the race for his signature. According to Kicker, Bayern Munich’s supervisory board members Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are opposed to a transfer, unlike sporting director Max Eberl. A move appears likely due to a release clause, set between €10 million and €12 million for clubs participating in the Champions League.
The priority for Bayern’s squad investment remains the backup positions for Harry Kane (32) and Luis Díaz (29). Their desired target, Anthony Gordon (25), is reportedly valued at up to €90 million. Consequently, Hoeneß and Rummenigge see a youth product from their own academy as a successor for the departing Leon Goretzka (31). According to Transfermarkt, Noel Aseko (20), who returns from Hannover 96 in the summer, is well-positioned for that role.
