Studio Science SARU has unveiled a trailer and confirmed the exact premiere date for the upcoming “Ghost in the Shell” anime series. The show is scheduled to debut on July 7, 2026. The trailer is available on the Ghost in the Shell Official YouTube channel, with Amazon holding the rights.
Based on Masamune Shirow’s original manga, which ran in Young Magazine from April 1989 to November 1990, the story takes place in the year 2029. It follows cyborg Motoko Kusanagi as she leads an elite police unit tasked with stopping crimes before they occur. The series is directed by Toma Kimura, with scripts by Enjo To and character designs by Shuhei Handa.
The studio has emphasized that the visual style of this adaptation draws directly from the manga, rather than from the earlier film and series adaptations directed by Mamoru Oshii and Kenji Kamiyama in the 1990s and 2000s.
