Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has confirmed that he will call up a full 26-player squad for the upcoming World Cup, dismissing any possibility of repeating the approach used during Euro 2020.
Speaking at an event organized by Europa Press News Agency, de la Fuente shared the stage with Alejandro Blanco (President of Spain’s Higher Sports Council), Rafael Lozan (Spanish Football Federation), and Javier Aganso (Spanish Professional Footballers’ Association). The event, held at the facilities of Camilo José Cela University, focused heavily on the upcoming World Cup.

With the World Cup trophy placed beside him, de la Fuente was introduced by RFEF President Rafael Lozan. Lozan described the coach as “a very special person” and praised him as “the perfect national team manager.” He added, “He is always willing to give everything. He is probably the person who best represents the values of Spanish sport. He makes our work much easier, and we are grateful for that.”
De la Fuente then took the floor, thanking Lozan for his kind words before shifting the focus to the World Cup. “When I make decisions, I do so with confidence, as I have always done throughout my life,” he said. “There will definitely be 26 excellent players in the squad. I work with the best players in the world, and also the best people. The image presented to the public is another matter—perhaps the invisible aspects are less marketable. Being a good person means being willing to endure everything for those around you. They have all proven that to me.”
