Neymar appears to have been handed a fresh chance to feature in the 2026 World Cup, after being named in Carlo Ancelotti’s provisional squad for Brazil.
The 34-year-old has not played for Brazil since a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in 2023, a match in which he suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Despite the setback, the forward’s return to Santos was made with the hope that he could recover in time to be part of the World Cup squad this summer.
Neymar has regained form in Brazil, scoring four goals and providing two assists in seven Serie A appearances this season.
Ancelotti has reignited his hopes by including the Santos striker in Brazil’s 55-man preliminary squad for the tournament.
Several Brazilian players have publicly urged for Neymar to be included in the final selection, although the ultimate decision rests with Ancelotti.
